She left home at seventeen to begin a new life away from an abusive father, entering into college and then becoming a wife and mother to four children. Yet the memories from the past, such as incidents when she was sexually abused as a child, caused author Margaret Ludick to have severe bouts of depression and a later diagnosis of bipolar disorder. She chronicles her journey through her abusive childhood and difficult adulthood in her new autobiography, Rita Remembers, which comprise journal entries she wrote with support from her therapist. The journal entries discuss the physical and sexual abuse Margaret dealt with from her father and relatives, along with enduring communication issues with her husband while trying to raise their children and handle her depression. Margaret also talks about becoming dependent on others, but learned later on that what she should depend on most is her intimate relationship with God.
